A 12th percentage calculator works out marks over maximum, times 100, so 407 out of 500 in five subjects is 81.4 percent. The same marks give a different figure when a form asks only for PCM: 236 out of 300 is 78.67 percent.
Use the calculator above with best five on or off, or with just your science subjects. This page explains which figure each kind of form wants, how HSC, PUC and Intermediate mark sheets differ, and where the Class 12 number feeds into an engineering cut off.

12th % = (marks in counted subjects / maximum of those subjects) x 100
Counted subjects are whatever the form names: all subjects, best five, or a group such as PCM or PCB.
How this 12th result percentage calculator works
Each row takes a subject name, its marks and its maximum. Give the rows your own subject names, for example English, Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science. Leave Out of blank if the paper is out of 100.
Best five starts ticked on this page. The tool sorts subjects from strongest to weakest and keeps five; the all subjects line below shows the figure without that choice. For a PCM figure, untick best five and keep only the three science rows.
The CGPA line divides the result by 9.5, borrowed from CBSE's former Class 10 grading, and it means nothing for Class 12, where CBSE never used a CGPA.
- Read the form to see which subjects it counts.
- Enter only those subjects with their totals and maximums.
- Tick best five only if the form asks for best five.
- Note the percentage to two decimals.
- Keep a copy of the working shown under the result.
Which subjects a Class 12 form counts
The single biggest reason two people get different answers from one mark sheet is that they counted different subjects.
| What the form asks for | Subjects to enter | Divide by |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregate or all subjects | Every subject on the mark sheet | Sum of all maximums |
| Best five | Your top five subjects (tick the box) | 500 (five papers of 100) |
| PCM percentage | Physics, Chemistry, Maths only | 300 (three papers of 100) |
| PCB percentage | Physics, Chemistry, Biology only | 300 (three papers of 100) |
| Language plus best four | English or the stated language, then the top four others | 500 |
| ISC English plus best three | English and your three strongest others | 400 (ISC page) |
For Class 12 too, CBSE computes no percentage and grants no division. A student with six subjects leaves the pick of five to the college or employer, and some, such as Delhi University, require a language among them. JEE and JoSAA eligibility follow their own published rules, so read the information bulletin rather than guessing.
12th percentage calculator worked examples
Five subjects. English 78, Physics 71, Chemistry 76, Maths 89, Computer Science 93.
Total = 407. Percentage = 407 / 500 x 100 = 81.4 percent.
PCM only. 71 + 76 + 89 = 236. Percentage = 236 / 300 x 100 = 78.67 percent.
Grand total on a six subject sheet. A mark sheet prints 534 out of 600.
534 / 600 x 100 = 89 percent. If the form wants five subjects, enter all six rows and tick best five instead of using the grand total.
12th percentage calculator for state board HSC, PUC and Intermediate sheets
State boards give the Class 12 exam different names: HSC in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, 2nd PUC in Karnataka, Intermediate in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Plus Two in Kerala. The higher secondary percentage calculator arithmetic does not change, but the sheet does.
- Separate years: some boards print each year's marks on separate sheets or as two columns. Use the figure the form names; if it says final year, use only the second year marks.
- Maximums other than 100: type exactly what is printed, as language and practical subjects can differ.
- Grades only: Kerala Plus Two certificates show grades, and any percentage from grade points is an estimate. The Plus Two percentage calculator covers that case.

Where Class 12 marks feed into admissions
Some engineering admissions use Class 12 marks directly. Tamil Nadu engineering admission ranks on a cut off out of 200, made of the Maths mark, plus Physics halved, plus Chemistry halved. With Maths 89, Physics 71 and Chemistry 76, that is 89 + 35.5 + 38 = 162.5. Karnataka's KCET engineering merit gives half weight to Class 12 PCM marks out of 300 and half to the KCET score.
The cut off calculator does both. For intermediate CGPA to percentage questions, note that most state boards print marks; if your sheet shows a CGPA, the conversion rule must come from that board.
Pitfalls when working out a Class 12 percentage
Check these before you enter a figure on a counselling or job form.
| Error | What happens | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Counting English in a PCM figure | PCM means three science subjects only | Enter just Physics, Chemistry and Maths |
| Mixing first year and second year marks | Many boards print each year separately | Use the year or combined total the form names |
| Using the theory column alone | Practical marks are part of the subject total | Enter the subject total and full maximum |
| Assuming CBSE Class 12 has a CGPA | CBSE never used CGPA for Class 12 | Work from marks only |
| Rounding 74.67 to 75 for an eligibility cut off | Eligibility is checked on the exact figure | Keep two decimal places in the figure |
For Class 10 results, open the 10th percentage calculator alongside this 12th one, and the marks percentage hub links every other board.
Questions students ask
What is the way to work out a 12th percentage?
Add the marks of the subjects the form counts and divide by their total maximum, then multiply by 100. Five subjects with 407 out of 500 give 81.4 percent. Use best five only when the form asks for it.
How do I calculate PCM percentage in 12th?
Add Physics, Chemistry and Maths marks and divide by their maximum, usually 300. Physics 71, Chemistry 76 and Maths 89 make 236, which is 78.67 percent. Do not include English.
Does this work as a 2nd PUC or HSC percentage calculator?
Yes. 2nd PUC, HSC and Intermediate results are marks based, so enter each subject total and its printed maximum. If your board prints first and second year separately, use the year the form names.
Does CBSE give a percentage for Class 12?
No. The mark sheet lists subject marks only, with no aggregate or division, and the board computes no percentage. With a sixth subject, the college or employer settles which five count.
Is there a 12th CGPA calculator?
CBSE never used a CGPA for Class 12, and most state boards print marks. A divide by 9.5 figure borrows from the retired CBSE Class 10 scheme, so do not report it as a Class 12 CGPA.
What is the inter marks percentage out of 1000?
If your Intermediate mark sheet prints a grand total, take it over the printed maximum and scale to 100: 874 out of 1000 is 87.4 percent. Check the maximum on your own sheet, as totals vary by group.
