Combine SGPAs into CGPA with credits
SGPA = sum(Ci x Gi) / sum(Ci)
Ci is the credit value of course i and Gi is the grade point you earned in it. The sums run over every course registered in the semester.
How the SGPA calculator works
Start with Grade scale. The default is the UGC 10 point scale (O to F). The list also holds VIT, SRM, both VTU scales (2022 scheme and 2018 scheme), Anna University, AKTU, JNTUH, JNTUK, KL and others, plus a "grade points as printed" option for any college whose letters are not listed. That last option suits polytechnic boards and autonomous colleges too, and for cards that print numbers instead of letters it acts as a number to SGPA calculator.
With SGPA from grades selected, a row takes a course name (just a label), its credits and the grade. The panel shows the SGPA, how many credits it counted, the credit point total, and a percentage under the rule linked to that scale. If any grade is below the pass grade, it tells you how many. The CGPA from semesters tab lets you combine SGPAs once you have several.

SGPA calculator formula with a full semester
Each course gives credit points equal to credits times grade point. SGPA is the total of credit points divided by the total of credits.

SGPA = 152 / 18 = 8.444, shown as 8.44. Under CBSE's 9.5 multiplier that reads as 80.18 percent, and under a x 10 rule it is 84.4 percent.
Notice that the two lab and theory courses with an O pull very differently: Data Structures adds 40 points on 4 credits, while the lab adds 20 on 2 credits.
When a course is failed
Universities treat an F in two ways, and it changes the SGPA a lot. Take the same semester with Digital Electronics failed (F, 0 points).
F counted at zero (VIT, SRM, JNTUK): points = 152 - 21 = 131, credits stay 18. SGPA = 131 / 18 = 7.28.
F left out (Anna University excludes U grades): points 131, credits 18 - 3 = 15. SGPA = 131 / 15 = 8.73.
Some universities, including VTU, hold back the SGPA until the course is cleared. When you pass in the supplementary exam, a revised grade card shows the new grade and SGPA. Use that revised card for your CGPA.

Final semester, polytechnic and other colleges
An 8th sem SGPA calculator needs nothing special, but the final semester often has a big project. A 10 credit project with an O, plus two 3 credit electives with A+ and A, gives (100 + 27 + 24) / 16 = 151 / 16 = 9.44. One project grade can carry the whole semester, so check its credits carefully.
As a polytechnic SGPA calculator, or poly SGPA calculator as many diploma students call it, it works the same way: diploma marks cards list credits and grades just like degree cards. A plain average of grade points is what some people mean by an average SGPA calculator or a total SGPA calculator, but no university computes SGPA that way.
Where to find credits and grades
The semester grade card or result page shows the code, credits and grade of every course. Before results, the credits are in your syllabus or scheme of study, under the course list for that semester.
