BPUT CGPA to percentage is calculated as (CGPA minus 0.5) times 10, so a CGPA of 8.1 equals 76.0 percent and 7.35 equals 68.5 percent. This is the rule cited from a BPUT notice for its B.Tech graduates.
Some reports say batches from much earlier years used (CGPA minus 0.75) times 10 instead, so check your admission year with the college if you graduated long ago. Use the converter above, and remember that the university's own certificate is what employers verify.

What the BPUT converter does
Key in the two decimal CGPA from the BPUT sheet. The converter subtracts 0.5, multiplies by 10 and returns the percentage, so 8.24 comes back as 77.4. Graduates of very old batches can work out the minus 0.75 figure from the table further down.
No CGPA yet, only semester SGPAs? The weighting is explained in the SGPA to CGPA section below, and any of our credit based calculators can do the sum.
- Find your CGPA on the latest BPUT grade sheet.
- Subtract 0.5.
- Multiply by 10.
- If you are from a very old batch, confirm whether minus 0.75 applied.
The BPUT CGPA to percentage formula
Biju Patnaik University of Technology's notice, widely circulated among students, gives percentage = (CGPA - 0.50) x 10. We did not read the notice on the university site, so treat it as the accepted rule rather than a clause we can quote. It matches the approach of JNTUH and GTU, which also subtract 0.5, and differs from MAKAUT and JNTUK, which subtract 0.75.
One source says some batches before the current regulations used minus 0.75. If your degree is from an early batch, your college exam cell can tell you which rule your certificate will use.
Worked BPUT examples
CGPA 8.10. 8.10 - 0.5 = 7.60. 7.60 x 10 = 76.0 percent.
CGPA 7.35. 7.35 - 0.5 = 6.85. 6.85 x 10 = 68.5 percent.
Recruiter wants 60 percent. 60 / 10 = 6.0, plus 0.5 = 6.50 CGPA needed.
Wondering how BPUT graduates can convert CGPA to percentage in their heads? Drop half a point, then shift the decimal one place right. For CGPA to percentage convert BPUT style with 9.02, that gives 8.52 and then 85.2 percent. Students asking about CGPA to percentage in BPUT for a 6.75 get 62.5 percent the same way.

BPUT SGPA to CGPA
| Subject | Credits | Letter | Point | Credits x point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1 | 3 | E | 9 | 27 |
| Paper 2 | 3 | A | 8 | 24 |
| Paper 3 | 3 | O | 10 | 30 |
| Paper 4 | 3 | B | 7 | 21 |
| Paper 5 | 3 | A | 8 | 24 |
| Practical 1 | 2 | O | 10 | 20 |
| Practical 2 | 2 | E | 9 | 18 |
| Sessional | 1 | A | 8 | 8 |
| Total | 20 | 172 |
SGPA = 172 / 20 = 8.60.
CGPA needs one more step: every term's SGPA is scaled by that term's credits before the division. With semesters of 19, 21, 24 and 22 credits at SGPA 7.60, 8.20, 7.90 and 8.60, the total is 695.4 over 86 credits, so CGPA = 8.09, against a plain average of 8.08. That CGPA converts to 75.9 percent.
| Marks | Grade letter | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | O | 10 |
| 80 to 89 | E | 9 |
| 70 to 79 | A | 8 |
| 60 to 69 | B | 7 |
| 50 to 59 | C | 6 |
| 37 to 49 | D | 5 |
| Below 37 | F | 2 |
This table is from older regulations as reported by secondary sources, with F still carrying 2 points. Newer regulations may differ, so trust the point shown on your own grade sheet.
Mistakes and corrections
| Mistake | Effect | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplying CGPA by 10 directly | Overstates by five marks | Take 0.5 off before multiplying |
| Using minus 0.75 for a recent degree | 2.5 points too low | Use minus 0.5 unless your batch is very old |
| Claiming first class from percentage | BPUT reportedly does not award a class | Quote CGPA and percentage only |
| Converting one SGPA | A single term is not the full degree | Use the final CGPA |
Certificate and where to find your CGPA
Your CGPA appears on the final grade sheet, and each semester sheet shows SGPA. For a formal conversion, route a request to BPUT via your college, enclosing copies of the grade sheets and paying whatever BPUT charges. See our certificate guide for details, and our weighting explainer if semester credits confuse you.
Questions students ask
How to calculate BPUT CGPA to percentage?
Take 0.5 off the CGPA, then scale by ten. A CGPA of 7.8 becomes 73 percent.
What is the BPUT CGPA to percentage conversion formula for older batches?
Some reports say early batches used (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. Check with your college exam cell if you graduated under an old regulation.
