IGNOU Percentage Calculator from Grade Card Marks

Universities30 : 70 weightageGrade card marksChecked Nov 2026

This IGNOU percentage calculator scores each course as 30 percent of your assignment marks plus 70 percent of your term end exam (TEE) marks, so 78 in the assignment and 64 in the TEE give 23.4 + 44.8 = 68.2 out of 100. It then averages your course scores to give an overall percentage.

The IGNOU grade card lists assignment and term end marks for each course but does not print one overall percentage. That is why so many learners need to work it out for a job form or an admission. The 30 to 70 split applies to theory courses in most programmes, and pass marks vary by programme, so read the notes below. IGNOU decides any official figure.

At a glance

  • Course score

    0.30 x assignment marks + 0.70 x term end marks
  • Example

    Assignment 78, TEE 64 gives 68.2 out of 100
  • Programme percentage

Credit weighted average of course scores
  • Pass rule

Pass assignment and TEE separately. 35 or 40 percent by programme
  • Division, as commonly listed

First 60 percent and above, second 50 to below 60
  • Exceptions

Practical, lab and project courses can use other weightings

Course % = 0.30 x assignment % + 0.70 x term end exam %

Both marks are out of 100. If your grade card shows a mark out of a different maximum, turn it into a percentage first.

How to use the IGNOU percentage calculator above

Each row has three boxes: a course code (optional, for your reference), assignment marks out of 100 and term end marks out of 100. As soon as a row has both marks, the tool shows the course score out of 100, and the big figure at the top becomes the average across all filled rows. The working line repeats the weightage so you can check one course by hand.

The IGNOU percentage calculator suits theory courses in BA and MA as well as BLIS and BCA, because the 30 to 70 rule is the same for theory papers in most programmes. Courses with practicals, labs or projects are handled differently; see the section on them below.

  1. Open your grade card on the IGNOU website.
  2. For each theory course, note the assignment marks and the term end theory marks.
  3. Enter them in one row per course.
  4. Read each course score and the overall percentage.
  5. If your courses carry different credits, weight the course scores by credits.

Where to find your marks on the IGNOU grade card

Open the grade card page on the IGNOU website and enter your enrolment number. Each course appears on one line with the assignment marks, the term end theory marks and, where relevant, practical marks, along with a status showing whether the course is complete.

If a course is not yet complete, its marks may be missing or partial. Wait until the status changes before using that course in the total. If you sat a course again, take the marks shown on the newest grade card, not an old printout.

Worked example with three courses

IGNOU course scores at 30 to 70 weightage
CourseAssignmentTerm endWorkingCourse score
Course A786423.4 + 44.868.2
Course B855225.5 + 36.461.9
Course C707821.0 + 54.675.6

Simple average, as the tool shows it: (68.2 + 61.9 + 75.6) / 3 = 205.7 / 3 = 68.57 percent.

If Course A and B carry 4 credits and Course C carries 2: (68.2 x 4 + 61.9 x 4 + 75.6 x 2) / 10 = 671.6 / 10 = 67.16 percent.

Notice how a strong assignment cannot rescue a weak term end exam. In Course B, 85 in the assignment adds 25.5, but 52 in the TEE adds only 36.4. The term end exam carries more than twice the weight.

Programme percentage: when credits matter

For the whole programme, the course marks are averaged with credit weights, so a 6 credit course counts three times as much as a 2 credit one. The tool averages courses equally, which is exact only if every course carries equal credits. If they differ, multiply each course score by its credits, sum the results and share that sum over all the credits, as in the example above. Our average percentage calculator can also help with the weighting.

Pass marks, grades and division

IGNOU checks the assignment and the term end exam separately. You must clear each part on its own, and the minimum is 35 percent in many programmes and 40 percent in some. Your programme guide states the exact figure, so check it before assuming you have passed.

IGNOU grades and division as commonly listed
Course scoreLetter grade
80 and aboveA (excellent)
60 to 79.9B
50 to 59.9C
40 to 49.9 (35 to 39.9 in some programmes)D
Below the pass markE (fail)

First division is commonly given at 60 percent and above and second division at 50 to below 60. These bands come from widely used summaries, not a single IGNOU rule we could verify, so check your programme guide.

Practical marks, labs and projects

The 30 to 70 split is the usual rule for theory courses. Some programmes use a different weighting, and lab, practical and project courses often have their own scheme. If you need an IGNOU percentage calculator with practical marks, work those courses out by the weighting stated in your programme guide, then add the result as a course score in the average. Do not push practical marks through the 30 to 70 boxes.

IGNOU CGPA and percentage to CGPA

Most IGNOU programmes report marks, not grade points. Some newer programmes may show an SGPA or CGPA on the grade card, and this tool is not an IGNOU CGPA calculator for those. No official IGNOU rule for converting such a CGPA was found in our checks, so if your card shows one, ask your regional centre or check the programme guide before quoting a figure. For general conversions, see CGPA to percentage and percentage to CGPA.

Questions students ask

How is IGNOU percentage calculated?

Each theory course is 30 percent assignment and 70 percent term end exam. For the whole programme, those course scores are averaged with credit weights.

Can I use the IGNOU grade card percentage calculator for BCA?

Yes for theory courses. BCA and some other programmes have practical or lab courses with different weightings, so work those out from the programme guide.

What are the pass marks in IGNOU?

You must pass the assignment and the term end exam separately. The minimum is 35 percent in many programmes and 40 percent in some, so check your programme guide.

Does the IGNOU grade card show a total percentage?

No. It shows marks for each course. You work out the overall figure from those marks, which is what this IGNOU marks calculator does.

How do I convert IGNOU percentage to CGPA?

We could not confirm an official IGNOU conversion. Most IGNOU programmes report marks, so quote the percentage unless the card itself prints a CGPA.

What is first division in IGNOU?

As commonly listed, 60 percent or more is first division and 50 to below 60 is second. Confirm with your programme guide.
