A CGPA to marks calculator first turns the CGPA into a percentage with your board or university rule and then takes that share of the total, so a CBSE CGPA of 8.4 is 8.4 x 9.5 = 79.8 percent, or 399 marks out of 500. Enter your CGPA and the total marks above, choose a rule, and the panel also shows the result out of 100, 600 and 1000.
These are equivalent marks, useful when a form has a "marks obtained" box and your result is in grades. They are not the marks you actually scored, which only the mark sheet or the university can confirm.

Formula
Marks = percentage from CGPA x total marks / 100CBSE factor
9.5 (percentage = CGPA x 9.5)x 10 universities
VIT, SRM, AKTU, Anna, KTU, VTU 2022 schemeCBSE subject marks

Equivalent marks, not marks scored
Marks = (CGPA converted to %) x Total / 100
The conversion to percent uses your board or university rule, for example CGPA x 9.5 for CBSE or CGPA x 10 for most engineering universities. Total is the maximum marks the form asks about.
Using the CGPA to marks tool
There are three inputs. Your CGPA is the figure on the result, such as 8.4. Total marks starts at 500, the usual total for five Class 10 subjects; change it to 600, 1000 or whatever the form uses. Rule starts on CBSE and holds every university rule on this site.
The large figure is the equivalent marks out of your total. The line below shows the percentage it came from, and a short list gives the marks out of 100, 500, 600 and 1000 so you can copy the right one. Because it handles any total and any rule, it also works as a CGPA marks calculator for UG courses and as a CGPA to marks calculator for engineering. Since the rule list holds every multiplier, it doubles as a CGPA to marks factor calculator. Students reach this page by searching convert CGPA to marks calculator or CGPA convert into marks calculator; both mean the same two step sum below.
- Find your CGPA on the result or grade card.
- Convert it to a percentage with your rule (x 9.5, x 10 or a minus rule).
- Multiply the percentage by the total marks.
- Divide by 100 and round to one decimal.
CGPA to marks calculator formula
It is a two step sum. Step one is the CGPA percentage under your rule. Step two is percentage times total, divided by 100. The "factor" people search for is just the multiplier in step one: 9.5 for CBSE and Delhi University, 10 for most engineering universities.
CBSE, CGPA 8.4, out of 500. 8.4 x 9.5 = 79.8%. 79.8 x 500 / 100 = 399 marks.
Anna University, CGPA 8.4, out of 1000. 8.4 x 10 = 84%. 84 x 1000 / 100 = 840 marks.
VTU 2018 scheme, CGPA 8.4, out of 900. (8.4 - 0.75) x 10 = 76.5%. 76.5 x 900 / 100 = 688.5 marks.
CBSE, CGPA 7.6, out of 600. 7.6 x 9.5 = 72.2%. 72.2 x 6 = 433.2 marks.
So the CGPA to percentage to marks route always holds: get the percentage right and the marks follow. The CGPA to percentage page lists each university's rule if you are unsure which one is yours.
CBSE subject grade point to marks
Under CBSE's old Class 10 CGPA scheme, each subject had a grade and a grade point. CBSE said the indicative subject percentage is grade point x 9.5, which for a 100 mark paper is also the indicative marks.
| CBSE grade | Marks range | Point | Indicative marks (of 100) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | 91 to 100 | 10 | 95 |
| A2 | 81 to 90 | 9 | 85.5 |
| B1 | 71 to 80 | 8 | 76 |
| B2 | 61 to 70 | 7 | 66.5 |
| C1 | 51 to 60 | 6 | 57 |
| C2 | 41 to 50 | 5 | 47.5 |
| D | 33 to 40 | 4 | 38 |
An A1 could stand for any mark between 91 and 100, and 95 is just the indicative middle. For Class 10 and 12 results under the current marks scheme, you already have real marks, so use the marks percentage calculator instead.
CGPA to total marks out of 500
| CGPA | CBSE x 9.5 | x 10 | (CGPA - 0.75) x 10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 475 | 500 | 462.5 |
| 9.5 | 451.25 | 475 | 437.5 |
| 9 | 427.5 | 450 | 412.5 |
| 8.5 | 403.75 | 425 | 387.5 |
| 8 | 380 | 400 | 362.5 |
| 7.5 | 356.25 | 375 | 337.5 |
| 7 | 332.5 | 350 | 312.5 |
| 6.5 | 308.75 | 325 | 287.5 |
| 6 | 285 | 300 | 262.5 |
| 5.5 | 261.25 | 275 | 237.5 |
| 5 | 237.5 | 250 | 212.5 |
For a different total, scale the figure: out of 600 multiply the out of 500 value by 1.2, out of 1000 multiply it by 2. Note that a perfect 10 under CBSE gives 475, not 500, because 9.5 is the multiplier.
When a form asks for marks obtained
Some application forms have two boxes, marks obtained and maximum marks, even for students with a CGPA. If the form allows a CGPA option, choose it. If not, enter the equivalent marks worked out with your own rule, and keep the working ready in case the verifying officer asks. For a university degree, the safest proof is the conversion certificate from the university; the guide to the university conversion certificate explains how to ask for one.
Where the notification spells out its own CGPA conversion (for example "multiply by 9.5"), its method wins for that application, whatever your university's rule.
Mistakes and how to avoid them
| Error | Why it misleads | Better approach |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplying CGPA straight by the total / 10 | Skips the 9.5 or minus step | Convert to a percentage with your rule first |
| Using 500 when the form means all subjects | Wrong maximum marks | Use the total the form states |
| Calling equivalent marks your real score | Verification may find a mismatch | Label it as converted from CGPA |
| Using the CBSE rule for a degree CGPA | University rules differ | Pick your university in the Rule list |
Reverse case: if you hold marks and want a CGPA, the marks to CGPA page works the other way.
Where to find your CGPA and total marks
Your CGPA is on the latest grade card or the consolidated grade sheet. The total marks figure comes from the form you are filling: it may be 100 for a percentage style box, 500 for five school subjects or the full degree total. If the form leaves it to you, use 100 and the result becomes your percentage. To go from a percentage back to CGPA, try percentage to CGPA.
Questions students ask
How to convert CGPA marks into percentage?
Pick your rule first. CBSE multiplies by 9.5 and most engineering universities by 10. At JNTUH, GTU and BPUT you take off 0.5 before multiplying by 10, while MAKAUT and JNTUK take off 0.75.
What is the CGPA to marks factor?
It is the multiplier in the conversion rule: 9.5 for CBSE and Delhi University, and 10 for universities that multiply by 10. Universities with minus rules subtract first, so there is no single factor.
How many marks is 9 CGPA out of 500?
Under CBSE's rule, 9 x 9.5 = 85.5 percent, which is 427.5 out of 500. Under a x 10 rule it is 450.
Can a CGPA to marks obtained calculator give my real marks?
No. A CGPA hides the exact marks inside grade bands. The calculator gives an equivalent figure that you can use where a form needs marks.
How to calculate CGPA marks in percentage for CBSE Class 10?
Multiply the overall CGPA by 9.5. Per subject, the grade point gets that treatment too: an A2 carries 9 points, and 9 x 9.5 = 85.5.
Is CGPA to marks the same for every university?
No. The marks depend on the percentage rule, and that rule differs between universities.
