With the RRB Group D marks calculator, every correct answer is worth 1 mark and every incorrect answer takes away 1/3 of a mark, so 73 correct and 12 incorrect give exactly 69 out of 100. Unattempted questions give 0. That is the whole rule for the single CBT of Level 1 posts.
The paper has 100 questions in 90 minutes across four subjects. After the CBT come the Physical Efficiency Test, document verification and medical, and the PET is qualifying. The Railway Recruitment Board normalises scores across shifts, so your official marks may differ a little from the raw score you get here.

Raw scores are normalised by RRB
Group D raw score = correct - incorrect / 3 (max 100)
Correct and incorrect are counted from your RRB response sheet. Divide the incorrect count by 3 before subtracting.
Filling in the RRB Group D marks calculator
Four pairs of boxes are shown above: General Science (25 questions), Mathematics (25), General Intelligence and Reasoning (30) and General Awareness and Current Affairs (20). In each pair, enter how many you got correct and how many incorrect. You get a score per subject, the total out of 100, and the marks lost to errors.
The counts come from the response sheet RRB opens during the objection window. It shows the question, your chosen option and the key. Count subject by subject so that a weak area, say Science, stands out clearly.
- Sign in to the answer key window on your RRB regional site.
- Compare your option with the key for each of the 100 questions.
- Write down correct and incorrect counts for Science, Maths, Reasoning and General Awareness.
- Enter the eight numbers in the calculator above.
- Note the raw score and wait for RRB's normalised marks.
Subject wise pattern of the Group D CBT
| Subject | Questions | Marks | Lost per error |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Science | 25 | 25 | 1/3 |
| Mathematics | 25 | 25 | 1/3 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 30 | 30 | 1/3 |
| General Awareness and Current Affairs | 20 | 20 | 1/3 |
| All subjects | 100 | 100 |
Reasoning carries the most questions, so it usually decides the total. General Awareness is the smallest block, but errors there cost the same third of a mark as anywhere else.
Group D answer key marks calculator: a worked case
General Science: 18 correct, 4 incorrect. 18 - 4/3 = 18 - 1.33 = 16.67
Mathematics: 20 correct, 2 incorrect. 20 - 0.67 = 19.33
Reasoning: 24 correct, 3 incorrect. 24 - 1 = 23
General Awareness: 11 correct, 3 incorrect. 11 - 1 = 10
Total: 16.67 + 19.33 + 23 + 10 = 69 out of 100. Check: 73 correct minus 12/3 (which is 4) equals 69.
This candidate attempted 85 questions and left 15. The 12 incorrect answers cost 4 marks, the same as four correct answers.
Score table for 85 attempts
| Incorrect out of 85 | Correct | Raw score |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 85 | 85 |
| 5 | 80 | 78.33 |
| 10 | 75 | 71.67 |
| 15 | 70 | 65 |
| 20 | 65 | 58.33 |
| 25 | 60 | 51.67 |
| 30 | 55 | 45 |
| 40 | 45 | 31.67 |
Each error moves you down by 1 and a third: you lose the mark you could have earned, plus the penalty. At 85 attempts, going from 10 errors to 20 errors drops the score by more than 13 marks. Accuracy matters more than the number of attempts.
RRB JE marks calculator for CBT 1 and CBT 2
Junior Engineer candidates use the same one third penalty, but with a different paper.
| Stage | Questions and marks | Time | Subjects |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBT 1 | 100 | 90 min | Maths 30, Reasoning 25, General Awareness 15, General Science 30 |
| CBT 2 | 150 | 120 min | General Awareness 15, Physics and Chemistry 15, Computers 10, Environment 10, Technical 100 |
RRB JE CBT 1: 68 correct, 15 incorrect. 68 - 5 = 63 out of 100.
RRB JE CBT 2: 110 correct, 21 incorrect. 110 - 7 = 103 out of 150.
To run an rrb je answer key marks calculator or an rrb je cbt 2 marks calculator, set these question counts in the negative marking calculator with 1 mark and a one third penalty. An RRB ALP marks calculator, an RRB technician grade 1 marks calculator, a grade 3 one or an RRB section controller marks calculator needs the pattern printed in that CEN, so read the notice before scoring those papers.
Normalised marks in railway exams
Group D is held in many shifts, and the question papers are not equally hard. RRB therefore normalises the raw marks. Broadly, each shift's scores are adjusted against a common base so that a candidate in a tough shift is not at a loss. The precise formula sits in the CEN, and we have not been able to confirm the current version.
A normalized marks calculator for RRB Group D can only estimate, because it needs the statistics of every shift. Use the raw score from this page to judge your paper, and treat the normalised marks in the result as the real figure.
Errors students make with the RRB answer key
| The slip | What it does | Set it right |
|---|---|---|
| Deducting 0.25 per error | Overstates the score | Take 1/3 of a mark |
| Deducting a full mark per error | Understates the score | Only a third is cut |
| Counting unattempted as incorrect | Adds a penalty that does not exist | Blank gives zero, no cut |
| Using a tentative key as final | Some keys change after objections | Check again with the final key |
The qualifying percentage for each category is given in the CEN of your recruitment, so check it there rather than relying on figures passed around after the exam.
Questions students ask
How do I work out Group D marks using the answer key?
Count correct and incorrect answers in each subject. Add the correct ones and subtract one third of the incorrect ones. The result is your raw score out of 100.
How much is cut for a wrong answer in Group D?
Each incorrect answer costs one third of a mark. A question you leave blank costs nothing.
Does this work as an rrb marks calculator for other railway exams?
NTPC and JE also use 1 mark per question and a one third penalty, but with different question counts. Set the counts for your paper, or use the NTPC page. For ALP and Technician, take the scheme from your CEN.
What is the rrb je cbt 2 marks calculator rule?
CBT 2 has 150 questions worth 1 mark apiece, and one third is deducted per incorrect answer. So 110 correct and 21 incorrect give 103 out of 150.
Is there a normalized marks calculator for RRB?
Any such tool gives only an estimate. RRB normalises using the data of all shifts, which is not public before the result.
Does the PET add marks to my Group D score?
No. The Physical Efficiency Test is qualifying. Merit comes from the CBT, after normalisation.
