This Saveetha attendance calculator starts at an 80 percent target, the figure SIMATS students most often quote, but no official SIMATS attendance regulation could be found, so please confirm the exact minimum with your department and change the target if it differs. Everything else the tool does is plain arithmetic that holds for any rule.
Enter classes attended and classes held for one course. You get your current figure, the number of further absences the target allows, and how many you would need back to back if you are short.

Saveetha Engineering College, which follows Anna University
Classes needed at 80% = 4 x held - 5 x attended
This comes from (0.8 x held minus attended) divided by 0.2. If your rule is not 80, the calculator uses the general form ceil((target x held minus attended) / (1 minus target)).
Why the Saveetha attendance calculator asks you to confirm the rule
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) runs engineering, dental, medical, law, allied health and other schools. We looked for a published SIMATS attendance regulation and did not find one. The 80 percent figure comes from a single unofficial source, so treat it as a starting point and not as the rule.
Different schools inside the same university can have different requirements, especially courses governed by national councils. Your department office, your faculty mentor and the student handbook given at admission are the right places to check. Once you know the figure, overwrite the 80 and every result updates.
- Ask your department, mentor or student handbook for the minimum attendance in your programme.
- Open your attendance record and pick one course.
- Type attended and held into the calculator above.
- Change the target from 80 if your department gave you another figure.
- Add the classes left this term to see the best figure you can still reach.
Same attendance, three possible rules
This table shows why the target matters. The same two students get very different advice depending on whether the bar is 75, 80 or 85 percent.
| Student | At 75 percent | At 80 percent | At 85 percent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 of 40 (75 percent) | On the line, miss none | Attend 10 in a row | Attend 27 in a row |
| 42 of 50 (84 percent) | Can miss 6 | Can miss 2 | Attend 4 in a row |
A student at 75 percent who thinks the rule is 75 feels safe, but under an 80 percent rule they need ten straight classes. Confirm first, then plan.
Filling in the calculator
- Classes attended: periods marked present for one course in your attendance record.
- Classes held: periods conducted so far for that course.
- Target percentage: 80 to begin with; overwrite it with your department's figure.
- Classes left this term: optional, the periods of that course still on the timetable.
The output shows Safe or Short against your target, then either a skip allowance or a count of classes to attend without a gap. Add the remaining periods and two more lines appear: how many of them you cannot skip, and the highest percentage still open to you by the last day.
Worked SIMATS style examples at 80 percent
Above the bar. 42 attended of 50 held.
42 / 50 x 100 = 84 percent. Skip allowance = floor(42 / 0.8 - 50) = floor(52.5 - 50) = 2. Check: 42 / 52 = 80.77 percent, while 42 / 53 = 79.25 percent.
Below the bar. 30 attended of 40 held.
75 percent. Classes needed = 4 x 40 minus 5 x 30 = 160 minus 150 = 10. Check: 40 / 50 = 80 percent.
Planning to the end. 30 of 40, with 25 classes left.
Term total = 65. For 80 percent you need 0.8 x 65 = 52 present, so attend at least 22 of the 25. Best possible = 55 / 65 = 84.62 percent.
Absences allowed at 80 percent
If your department confirms 80, this table gives your whole term budget. For any other figure, use the calculator above.
| Periods this term | Present needed | Absence budget |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 16 | 4 |
| 30 | 24 | 6 |
| 40 | 32 | 8 |
| 50 | 40 | 10 |
| 60 | 48 | 12 |
| 70 | 56 | 14 |
| 80 | 64 | 16 |
| 90 | 72 | 18 |
| 100 | 80 | 20 |
| 120 | 96 | 24 |
At 80 percent you may miss one class in five. That sounds generous until a week of fever meets a course with only 20 sessions.

Mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Problem | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Trusting a figure from a senior or a group chat | Rules differ by school and can change | Get the number from your department in writing |
| Averaging all courses | Eligibility is usually checked per course | Run each course on its own |
| Planning at exactly the target | One surprise absence puts you under | Keep two or three classes spare |
| Assuming medical leave is added back | Each college has its own leave process | Ask how medical leave is recorded |

Questions students ask
What is the minimum attendance at Saveetha (SIMATS)?
We could not find a published SIMATS rule. One unofficial source says 80 percent, so the calculator starts there. Confirm the figure with your department and change the target if needed.
At 80 percent, how many periods may I skip?
Use floor(attended / 0.8 - held). With 42 of 50 you can miss 2 more. Over a 60 class term you can miss 12 in total.
How do I calculate the classes needed to reach 80 percent?
Use 4 x held minus 5 x attended. With 30 of 40 that is 10 classes in a row, after which you have 40 of 50.
Can I change the target in the SIMATS attendance calculator?
Yes. Type any figure, such as 75 or 85, in the target box. All results recalculate straight away.
Is Saveetha Engineering College covered by this page?
Only for the arithmetic. Saveetha Engineering College is affiliated to Anna University, so its attendance rule comes from Anna University regulations, not from SIMATS.
