Calcutta University CGPA to Percentage Calculator (CBCS)

UniversitiesCBCSRule unconfirmedx 10 or x 9.5Checked Nov 2026

Calcutta University CGPA to percentage cannot be pinned to one published formula, but the university's own PG admission notice told applicants to multiply CGPA by 10 when marks were not printed, so 7.6 CGPA reads as 76 percent under that method. Under the x 9.5 rule some other universities use, the same 7.6 would be 72.2 percent.

That admission instruction is not a conversion ordinance, so it may not hold for jobs or other universities. The calculator above shows both readings. For a figure you can submit with confidence, ask your college or the university's examination department, which decides the official number.

Reading the CU converter panel

Think of it as a CU CGPA calculator for the conversion step. The CU CGPA to percentage result under both readings appears at once. Copy the CGPA off your CBCS mark sheet into the box. The panel shows the percentage under x 10, which is the method CU's own PG admission notice used, and under x 9.5 for comparison. A dropdown also lists other rules seen at other universities, but for Calcutta the first two are the realistic options. Reverse mode works backwards from a target percentage to the CGPA each rule would demand.

  1. Find the CGPA on your final or latest CBCS mark sheet.
  2. Check whether the mark sheet also prints total marks.
  3. If marks are printed, use those for the percentage.
  4. If not, see both x 10 and x 9.5 in the calculator.
  5. Confirm with the college before filling a form.

What we know about the Calcutta University CGPA to percentage rule

The University of Calcutta moved its undergraduate courses to CBCS, which reports SGPA and CGPA. We could not find a conversion ordinance or a grade to marks table on the university website. The one clear instruction we found was in an admission notice for postgraduate courses: where a candidate's mark sheet shows only CGPA, the percentage is taken as CGPA x 10.

That shows how CU itself reads a CGPA for its own admissions. It does not prove that an employer or another university will do the same. If your mark sheet prints total marks as well as CGPA, the percentage from marks (total obtained divided by full marks, times 100) is the safest number to use, and the marks percentage calculator does it in one step.

The gap grows with CGPA: at 9.0 the two methods differ by 4.5 points. If a cut off sits in that gap, ask for the official figure before you apply.

Worked examples for CU students

B.Sc. honours graduate, CGPA 7.60. x 10 gives 76.0 percent; x 9.5 gives 72.2 percent. For a CU master's admission, the notice method gives 76.0.

B.Com student, CGPA 6.80. x 10 gives 68.0 percent; x 9.5 gives 64.6 percent.

Eligibility of 55 percent. Under x 10 you need CGPA 5.50. Under x 9.5 you need 55 / 9.5 = 5.79.

From SGPA to CGPA under CBCS

CU's CBCS mark sheets give an SGPA each semester. CGPA weights each SGPA by its credits.

2207.75155.0
3266.9179.4
4267.4192.4
Overall92671.8

CGPA = 671.8 / 92 = 7.3. The plain average would be 7.33.

Our SGPA to CGPA page repeats this step for you, or the SGPA calculator to build a semester figure from paper credits and the points on your sheet. It works as a CU SGPA calculator too, and multiplying the result by 10 or 9.5 is what people mean by an SGPA to percentage calculator for Calcutta University. We have not verified CU's letter grade bands, so type the points exactly as the sheet shows them.

Getting a figure you can submit

  • Ask your college office whether the university has issued a conversion rule for your batch.
  • Internal assessment marks come from your college, so no CU internal marks calculator can replace the college's own record. Apply to the CU examination department for a certificate or a transcript that shows a percentage.
  • Read the instructions of the form itself: many admission and job forms state which formula to use for CGPA candidates.

Our certificate page covers what to request and how.

Questions students ask

What is the Calcutta University CGPA to percentage formula?

No general formula is published that we could confirm. CU's own PG admission notice used CGPA x 10 when marks were not printed. Ask your college or the examination department for the official figure.

With a B.Sc. from Calcutta University what should I write as CGPA to percentage in admission forms?

If your mark sheet shows total marks, use those. Otherwise CGPA x 10 is the method CU used in its own admission notice; x 9.5 is shown for comparison.

Will CU certify my CGPA as a percentage?

Write to the university's examination department. A certificate or a transcript with a percentage is the most reliable document.

Is there a CBCS PDF for Calcutta University CGPA to percentage?

No conversion PDF from the university turned up in our search. Check the CU website and your college notice board for any later circular.

What is the SGPA to CGPA method at Calcutta University?

Scale every term's SGPA up by its own credit count, total the weighted values, then share that total across all credits. The linked SGPA to CGPA page shows the working.

Is CU the same as MAKAUT for conversion?

No. MAKAUT uses (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. CU has no such published rule.
