A NEET marks calculator multiplies right answers by 4 and subtracts 1 for every wrong answer, out of 720, so 146 correct and 23 wrong give 584 minus 23, which is 561. Unanswered questions score 0.
NEET UG now has 180 questions and every one is compulsory: Physics 45, Chemistry 45 and Biology 90. The optional section with extra questions has been removed. Read your answers from the OMR copy or recorded response, check them against the NTA answer key, and put the counts into the calculator above. The final score is declared by NTA.

How the NEET marks calculator above works
You give it six numbers: right and wrong for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Blanks are whatever is left of each subject. The +4 and minus 1 rule is then applied, giving each subject score, the total out of 720 and the percentage of 720 you scored.
This is the same arithmetic whether you call it a NEET OMR marks calculator, a NEET response sheet marks calculator or a NEET answer key marks calculator. The only input that matters is an honest count of right and wrong answers.
- Keep your OMR copy or open the recorded response that NTA shows with the answer key.
- Write the key next to each question number.
- Mark each question right, wrong or blank, subject by subject.
- Enter the right and wrong counts for Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the calculator.
- Read the subject scores and the total out of 720.
- Add +4 for any question NTA drops in the final key.
Subject-wise marks in the current NEET UG pattern
| Subject | Questions | Max marks |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | 45 | 180 |
| Chemistry | 45 | 180 |
| Biology (Botany + Zoology) | 90 | 360 |
| Total | 180 | 720 |
The paper is 180 minutes in one shift. One re-examination in the current cycle ran for 3 hours 15 minutes with the same 180 questions and 720 marks, so a re NEET marks calculator uses the same formula. Section B, where you chose some questions out of a larger set, belongs to the older pattern and no longer applies.
Worked example from an OMR sheet
- Physics: 32 right, 8 wrong, 5 blank. 128 - 8 = 120
- Chemistry: 36 right, 6 wrong, 3 blank. 144 - 6 = 138
- Biology: 78 right, 9 wrong, 3 blank. 312 - 9 = 303
Total = 120 + 138 + 303 = 561 out of 720. Check with overall counts: 146 right x 4 = 584, minus 23 wrong = 561. Questions: 146 + 23 + 11 = 180.
Now say NTA drops one Physics question that you had marked wrong. You lose the minus 1 and gain +4, a change of 5, so the score becomes 566. Had you left it blank, you would gain 4. Had you got it right, nothing changes.
Score table: right and wrong answers to marks
Each row adds up to 180 questions. The last column is marks divided by 720, times 100.
| Correct | Wrong | Blank | Score out of 720 | Marks as percentage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 180 | 0 | 0 | 720 | 100 |
| 170 | 10 | 0 | 670 | 93.06 |
| 160 | 15 | 5 | 625 | 86.81 |
| 150 | 20 | 10 | 580 | 80.56 |
| 140 | 25 | 15 | 535 | 74.31 |
| 130 | 30 | 20 | 490 | 68.06 |
| 120 | 30 | 30 | 450 | 62.5 |
| 110 | 30 | 40 | 410 | 56.94 |
| 100 | 30 | 50 | 370 | 51.39 |
| 90 | 30 | 60 | 330 | 45.83 |
| 80 | 30 | 70 | 290 | 40.28 |
| 70 | 30 | 80 | 250 | 34.72 |
| 60 | 30 | 90 | 210 | 29.17 |
Reading your OMR and the answer key
NEET is a pen and paper test, so your answers are the bubbles on the OMR sheet. When NTA releases the provisional answer key, check your login for the OMR image or recorded responses shared with it. Use that record, or your own copy, rather than memory for your count.
- Match each question number to the key for the paper you wrote.
- A question counts as right only if the one bubble you filled is the key answer.
- Recheck after the final key, since challenges can change or drop answers.
Whether you score by OMR sheet or by recorded response, the NEET marks calculator from OMR and the one from the response sheet are doing the same thing.
Mistakes students make when they score NEET
| Where students slip | The real rule | Do this instead |
|---|---|---|
| Using 200 questions and skipping 20 | The optional section was removed; all 180 questions count | Score all 180 |
| Forgetting the minus 1 | Each wrong bubble costs 1 mark | Enter wrong answers separately from blanks |
| Counting a double bubble as blank | Two filled circles for one question is not a valid answer and will not match the key | Do not count it as correct |
| Treating Biology as one block of 45 | Biology has 90 questions (Botany and Zoology) and 360 marks | Enter Biology as 90 questions |
| Ignoring dropped questions | Every candidate gets +4 for a dropped or wrong question | Add the change once the final key is out |
| Calling the percentage a percentile | Percentage is marks out of 720; percentile is your standing among all who sat the paper | Keep the two numbers apart on forms |
Percentage, percentile and rank
Your NEET percentage is simply marks divided by 720, times 100. For 561 that is 77.92 percent. Percentile is different. It shows what share of all candidates are at or below your mark, and the qualifying percentile is set in the result notice. So a NEET percentile to marks calculator or a NEET marks to rank calculator can only estimate, using past data. No official table links marks to rank.
NEET PG is a separate exam with its own pattern, so a NEET PG percentile to marks calculator needs that exam's rules, not these. Other entrance tests have their own pages: the JEE Main marks calculator, the MHT CET marks calculator for PCB and the CUET marks calculator. The negative marking calculator handles any +4 and minus 1 mock test.
Questions students ask
How do I use a NEET marks calculator from OMR?
Count the bubbles that match the answer key and the ones that do not, subject by subject. Enter those right and wrong counts and the calculator gives your score out of 720.
Is there an optional section in NEET now?
No. The optional section was removed. All 180 questions are compulsory: 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology.
How many marks do I lose for a wrong answer in NEET?
One mark for each wrong answer. A blank answer neither adds nor removes marks.
What happens if NTA drops a question?
Every candidate gets +4 for that question, whatever they marked. If you had it wrong, your score rises by 5.
How do I convert NEET marks to percentage?
Divide your score by 720 and multiply by 100. 561 marks is 77.92 percent. Percentile is a separate figure.
Can I use this NEET marks calculator for a mock test?
Yes, if the mock follows the same +4 and minus 1 marking. Enter the right and wrong counts from your mock answer key.
Does this work as a NEET PG marks calculator?
No. NEET PG follows a different pattern. This page is for NEET UG only.
