The KTU SGPA calculator finds your semester grade point average as the sum of credits x grade point for each course, divided by that semester's credit count. Eight courses worth 25 credits that earn 216 credit points give an SGPA of 8.64.
Type each course's credits and pick the grade point printed on your KTU result. The tool shows the SGPA, the working, and a percentage at x 10. When you have more than one semester, it can turn the SGPAs into a CGPA too. KTU's printed result is the official record.

C is the credit value of each course in the semester. GP is the grade point you earned in it, read from the KTU result.
Using the KTU SGPA calculator above
The SGPA from grades tab is open by default. A row holds an optional course label, a credit box and a list of grade points. The list runs 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5 and so on to 4, with 0 at the end for a failed or absent course. A KTU result shows the grade point next to the letter for each course, so you never have to convert marks yourself.
On the right you get the SGPA, the credits that went in, the sum of points earned, plus the KTU percentage at x 10. If any row is below 5 points, a warning appears so you can confirm the result before using the SGPA anywhere.
- Open the semester result on the KTU portal or the grade card.
- Add one row for each course, lab and seminar with its credits.
- Pick the grade point shown for that course.
- Read the SGPA. The working line lists every credits x point product.
Why the tool asks for grade points, not letters
KTU letter grades have changed between schemes, and we could not verify the full letter to point table for either the older 2015 scheme or the current 2019 scheme in the regulation itself. Printing a table we cannot stand behind would risk a wrong SGPA. The grade point beside each course on your result is always right for your scheme, so the calculator uses it directly.
This also makes the tool useful for students of newer schemes whose cards show half steps like 7.5 or 8.5. Pick the value exactly as printed.
Worked example: one KTU semester
| Paper | Credit value | Point earned | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 4 | 9 | 36 |
| Course 2 | 4 | 8 | 32 |
| Course 3 | 4 | 10 | 40 |
| Course 4 | 4 | 7 | 28 |
| Course 5 | 3 | 8 | 24 |
| Course 6 | 3 | 9 | 27 |
| Lab | 2 | 10 | 20 |
| Seminar | 1 | 9 | 9 |
| Total | 25 | 216 |
SGPA = 216 / 25 = 8.64.
If Course 2 had shown 8.5 in place of 8, the products would rise by 4 x 0.5 = 2, giving 218 / 25 = 8.72.
The credits in this table are a sample, chosen to keep the arithmetic easy. Copy the real credits from your own result.
Going from SGPA to CGPA in KTU and how to calculate it
Once you have more than one SGPA, KTU combines them with credit weights. Each SGPA is scaled by the credits of its term, the scaled values are summed, and that sum is divided across the full credit count. The same rule is used whether you have two semesters or eight.
S5: SGPA 8.64 over 25 credits gives 216.0 points. S6: SGPA 7.90 over 23 credits gives 181.7 points.
CGPA for S5 and S6 together = (216.0 + 181.7) / 48 = 397.7 / 48 = 8.29.
Inside the tool, pick the tab named CGPA from semesters and it does exactly this. For a full S1 to S8 record, the KTU CGPA calculator page walks through a longer example.
Which rows to include
Add every course that carries credits in that semester: theory courses, labs, the seminar and the project. A course with zero credits adds nothing to either total, so it can be left out. If you are repeating a course after a supplementary exam, go with the point on the newest result, since that is what KTU now holds for you.
Do not include courses from another semester. The SGPA belongs to one term only. Keep a copy of each term's figure so you can feed the semester totals into a CGPA later.
Errors that throw off a KTU SGPA
| Slip | Effect on the SGPA | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Missing the lab or seminar row | Credits and points both too small | Count rows against the result |
| Picking 8 when the card says 8.5 | SGPA drops a little | Choose the half point value |
| Typing internal marks | Marks are not grade points | Use the point column of the result |
| Averaging SGPAs without credits for a CGPA | Light and heavy terms count the same | Weight by semester credits |
SGPA and percentage at KTU
The KTU orders convert CGPA to percentage as CGPA x 10 for B.Tech, covering the 2019 scheme and its 2015 scheme predecessor. Students often apply the same factor to a single SGPA for an internship form, so 8.64 would read as 86.4 percent. Treat that as an estimate. For the full rule and the old minus 2.5 version, read KTU CGPA to percentage. The general SGPA to CGPA guide covers other universities.
Questions students ask
What is the method for KTU SGPA?
Give each course a weight equal to its credits: credits times point, summed, with the total then split over every credit of that term. The calculator above does it and shows the working.
In KTU how do I convert my SGPA to CGPA?
Weight every term: SGPA times that term's credits. Sum those weighted values and share the sum over every credit you counted. The CGPA from semesters tab does this.
Can I use the KTU SGPA calculator for S8?
Yes. Add the S8 courses, including the project, with their credits and grade points. The project usually carries more credits, so check that figure carefully.
Is this an SGPA calculator for KTU B.Tech only?
It is a KTU SGPA calculator for BTech grade cards first, though any KTU programme that prints a point per course can use it. Its second tab works as a total SGPA calculator for KTU that merges terms into a CGPA.
What happens if I have a failed course?
Pick 0 for it. The tool flags it, and the SGPA you see is not final. Redo it after the supplementary result.
Is the KTU grade to SGPA calculator the same for the 2019 scheme and 2015 scheme?
Yes. It reads whatever point your card shows, not a fixed letter table.
