This SRM CGPA calculator applies the official SRM IST grade points from Regulations 2021 (O 10, A+ 9, A 8, B+ 7, B 6, C 5, F 0) and weights each by course credits, so an SGPA is total credit points divided by total credits. For the percentage, clause R 8.7 of the regulations says equivalent percentage = CGPA x 10, which makes a CGPA of 8.33 equal to 83.3 percent.
Choose grades course by course for an SGPA, or open the semester tab and enter every SGPA with its credits to get the CGPA. The panel also prints the working, so you can check each step against your grade sheet.

CGPA = sum(semester credits x SGPA) / sum(semester credits)
Each SGPA is itself sum(Ci x GPi) / sum(Ci) for that semester, where Ci is the course credit and GPi the grade point. Equivalent percentage = CGPA x 10.
SRM IST grade table under Regulations 2021
Grades come from your normalised total in each course. To pass you need at least 50 percent of that total.
| Grade | Marks range | Grade point |
|---|---|---|
| O | 91 to 100 | 10 |
| A+ | 81 to 90 | 9 |
| A | 71 to 80 | 8 |
| B+ | 61 to 70 | 7 |
| B | 56 to 60 | 6 |
| C | 50 to 55 | 5 |
| F | Below 50 | 0 |
| Ab (absent) | Not applicable | 0 |
| I (incomplete) | Not applicable | 0 |
Notice the narrow bands at the bottom: B covers only 56 to 60 and C covers 50 to 55. A few marks near those edges change your grade point by one.
- Take your semester grade sheet from the SRM student portal.
- Enter each course's credits and pick its letter grade in the calculator.
- Note the SGPA and the total credits of that semester.
- In the semester tab, enter every SGPA with its credits to get the CGPA.
- Multiply the CGPA by 10 for the equivalent percentage.
Using the SRM CGPA calculator
As an SRM University CGPA calculator, the tool opens with the SRM IST scale already chosen. In the SGPA tab, fill a row for each subject on your grade sheet, giving credits and the letter grade; a subject name is optional. You then see the SGPA, the credit count used, the sum of credit points, and an equivalent percentage. A line also warns you if any course is below the pass grade.
The CGPA tab works semester wise. Type every term's SGPA beside the credits printed for it on the grade sheet. This matches the regulation, which weights each SGPA by its semester credits rather than taking a plain average. Use it as an SRM SGPA to CGPA calculator after every result.
This page does not estimate internal marks. If you are trying an SRM internal marks calculator to predict a grade, remember that grades depend on the normalised total, so treat any prediction as rough.
SRM SGPA worked example
| Course | Credits | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calculus and Linear Algebra | 4 | O | 40 |
| Semiconductor Physics | 4 | A | 32 |
| Programming for Problem Solving | 3 | A+ | 27 |
| Basic Electrical Engineering | 3 | B+ | 21 |
| Communicative English | 2 | B | 12 |
| Engineering Graphics Lab | 2 | O | 20 |
Credits = 18. Points = 152. SGPA = 152 / 18 = 8.44.
Suppose Communicative English came back F rather than B. Then the 2 credits stay in the denominator but add nothing: 140 / 18 = 7.78. That is why SRM includes F in the SGPA.
SRM CGPA to percentage, with a worked CGPA
Semester 1: SGPA 8.44 on 18 credits. Semester 2: SGPA 7.90 on 22 credits. Semester 3: SGPA 8.65 on 24 credits.
CGPA = (8.44 x 18 + 7.90 x 22 + 8.65 x 24) / (18 + 22 + 24) = (151.92 + 173.8 + 207.6) / 64 = 533.32 / 64 = 8.33.
Equivalent percentage = 8.33 x 10 = 83.3 percent.
| CGPA | Equivalent percentage |
|---|---|
| 5.00 | 50.0 |
| 6.00 | 60.0 |
| 6.80 | 68.0 |
| 7.20 | 72.0 |
| 7.60 | 76.0 |
| 8.00 | 80.0 |
| 8.33 | 83.3 |
| 8.60 | 86.0 |
| 9.00 | 90.0 |
| 9.40 | 94.0 |
| 9.80 | 98.0 |
If an employer or university abroad needs it in writing, request a conversion certificate from the SRM examination office. The university's figure is the one that counts.
Classification of degree at SRM
For the Integrated M.Tech, Regulations 2021 award First Class with Distinction at a CGPA of 8.0 or more, provided you never had an Ab, F, I or withdrawal. First Class covers 6.0 to below 8.0, and also 8.0 or more for students who had an arrear. Second Class covers 5.0 to below 6.0.
The B.Tech programme has its own classification table in the same regulations. Read it in the official PDF linked above before you write a class on a form.
Common SRM CGPA errors
| Mistake | Effect | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Dropping the F course from the sum | SGPA looks higher than the official one | Keep its credits with 0 points |
| Averaging SGPAs without credits | Wrong when semester credits differ | Weight by semester credits |
| Using the UGC 10 point bands | SRM bands start at 91 for O, not 90 | Use the SRM table above |
| Multiplying by 9.5 | 9.5 is a school board factor, not an SRM one | SRM says CGPA x 10 |
SRM AP, VEC, Easwari and other universities
SRM AP, at Amaravati, issues its own regulations and grading, so an SRM AP CGPA calculator user should check the AP handbook before trusting the scale here. Valliammai (VEC) and Easwari, both SRM group colleges, sit under Anna University, so their grades belong in the Anna University tool.
VIT also converts with CGPA x 10; see the VIT CGPA calculator. For attendance, the SRM attendance calculator checks the 75 percent rule, and our SGPA to CGPA guide goes deeper into credit weighting.
Questions students ask
How is CGPA calculated in SRM?
SRM weights every SGPA by the credits of its own term, adds those weighted values and divides by all credits so far. SGPA itself is credits x grade points over credits for the semester, with F counted as 0.
How do I convert SRM CGPA to percentage?
Clause R 8.7 of Regulations 2021 gives the rule: CGPA times 10. A CGPA of 8.33 is 83.3 percent.
What is the pass mark at SRM?
You need at least 50 percent of the normalised total in a course, which is grade C with 5 points. Below that is F.
Is there an SRM CGPA to percentage conversion certificate?
Yes, the examination office can issue one on request. Use the university's certificate when an employer or foreign university asks for proof.
Will this work as an SRM GPA calculator for a single term?
It will. The first tab is an SRM SGPA calculator built from course credits and grades. The second tab merges term SGPAs into the CGPA.
Is this the right GPA calculator SRM VEC or Easwari students should use?
No. Those colleges are affiliated to Anna University, whose grade scale differs, so pick our Anna University page for them.
